Did you know that there’s a 200-year-old windmill in Brixton built in 1816? It produced stoneground wholemeal flour for 46 years before the sprawling metropolis of London caught up with it. The scale of the city prevented the wind from reaching the sails, and the windmill briefly fell into disrepair. But thanks to the hard work of local Brixtonians, this Grade II-listed windmill is back to producing flour and open to the public for just six weekends a year — including this one!
Explore a unique piece of Brixton’s history by booking a tour of Brixton Windmill. And if you’re looking for a hobby, you can apply to join the Brixton Windmill volunteer team to preserve this quirky London landmark for generations to come.
