Brixton Culture Capital 12.03.2026
RIP Alan Slingsby — A Brixton Hero
Alan Slingsby dedicated much of his life to independent local journalism as editor of the Brixton Blog and Brixton Bugle. Through his reporting, he documented the life of this community — giving people a voice, telling local stories with care, and helping Brixton understand itself.
Alan passed away on 28 January. His funeral will take place this Friday at West Norwood Crematorium (10:15–11:15am), followed by a gathering at The Great North Wood pub.
If Alan ever wrote about your work, supported your cause, or helped tell Brixton’s story, this is a moment to pay your respects.
The archive of the Brixton Blog and Brixton Bugle — a vital record of Brixtons culure and community — is now being preserved at Lambeth Archives. Supporters are raising funds to protect and maintain this archive so future generations can access it.
