Brixton’s Culture Capital: Let’s Capture and Grow It Together
Brixton has become a cultural powerhouse known for its rich Black Afro-Caribbean heritage and diverse creative expressions. This unique “culture capital” has made Brixton one of the most vibrant destinations in London, attracting businesses, artists, and visitors from all over. But as Brixton evolves, we must ask ourselves: How do we protect and grow the cultural capital built over decades?
As part of a new series on Brixton Culture Capital, I am looking to connect with local businesses, creatives, and entrepreneurs contributing to Brixton’s cultural identity. Whether you’re running a business that draws on Brixton’s vibe or you’re an artist creating work inspired by this community, I want to hear from you. Your story could be part of a larger conversation about how we continue to nurture and build on Brixton’s culture in a way that benefits the entire community.
Together, we can explore key questions: What is the future of Brixton’s culture capital? How do we ensure that its growth remains authentic? And how can businesses leverage this capital responsibly, contributing to the community rather than just profiting from it?
Let's talk if you’re building something for Brixton, with Brixton at its heart. Get in touch to be part of this research documentary and help shape the future of Brixton’s cultural legacy.
The Best Sunday Roast in Brixton
It’s that time of year again.
We don’t know about you but as soon as Autumn hits, all we want is a good Sunday roast. But you know Brixton — we always do things differently. So from English classics to Caribbean twists, there’s tons of options for your Sunday fave!
Market House / Original Flava: This Carib-British roast is a Brixtonian dream. Your choice of jerk meats served with rice & peas, roast potatoes, vegetables, Yorkshire pudding, coleslaw, and jerk gravy. Incredible.
The Laundry: A frankly enormous portion of roasted sirloin, pork belly, or squash and sage tart, served with all the trimmings. Some say it’s the best roast in South London. Grab a side of macaroni cheese, and see what you think!
Crown & Anchor: A friendly pub with beers on tap and a classic English roast for under £20. What more could you ask for?
Trinity Arms: This lovely little pub does a gorgeous traditional roast and a delicious bloody Mary. And it’s dog friendly, too!
The Blues Kitchen: Not feeling a Sunday roast? The Blues Kitchen do bottomless wings from 12pm – 6pm every Sunday. And there’s epic music to boot.
