Brixton Culture Capital 20.11.2025
BCC 100 #001 — Diana Nabagereka | Keyholder of Brixton Village
We’re opening the BCC 100 by recognising Diana Nabagereka, who leads one of Brixton’s most complex cultural places: Brixton Village. As General Manager of this Grade II‑listed market, she’s responsible for the look, feel, and day‑to‑day life—balancing culture, safety, and vibrancy while navigating hundreds of stakeholder expectations across ~65,000 sq ft, two covered markets, and around 130 businesses.
Diana gets that Brixton Village, though privately owned, is Brixton’s living room, open long hours every day. She treats the market as such and holds it with care.
In this conversation:
What “Brixton culture” means inside the market—the behaviours, sounds and small rituals that make it distinctly Brixton.
How she curates and holds the culture, keeping the right mix across shops, makers, and food & drink.
What has it been like leading 130 businesses as a Black woman.
Tenant challenges & turnover—why some concepts struggle and what thriving founders do differently.
Gentrification in practice—keeping daytime shops alive while the evening hospitality scene thrives.
