M&S Brixton is back! After a seven-months renovation, the iconic store has reopened, marking a century of serving the Brixton community. The reopening celebration included a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Store Manager Mark Aldridge and guest Percy Pig, accompanied by music from the London All Stars Steel Band.
This transformation is part of M&S’s £30 million investment in London stores.
The revamped store features a fresh-market style food hall designed to meet the needs of Brixton’s vibrant community. The renewal also features local touches, including artwork and a mural by Create Not Destroy, celebrating Brixton’s creative spirit. As M&S’s first London store with a history spanning over a century, this renovation blends modern innovation with a deep respect for Brixton’s heritage.
Since opening as a humble Penny Bazaar on Brixton Station Road in 1903, M&S has been woven into Brixton’s story, moving into its iconic Art Deco building in 1931—a cherished landmark ever since. This deep connection was on full display as Brixton residents queued, some even seated, to welcome the store’s reopening after its recent revamp. As the site of M&S’s first London store, the new-look branch beautifully honors Brixton’s heritage and the community’s enduring love for the brand. General Manager Mark Aldridge expressed his pride in being part of this one-of-a-kind love story.
Welcome back, M&S Brixton—you’ve been missed!
