Brixton Culture Capital 26.02.2026
See you Sunday ✊
How a place looks affects how safe it feels. That’s not just opinion — it’s psychology. Clean streets signal care, ownership, and culture. Neglected ones signal the opposite.
Last week, I wrote about what I’ve been calling the “Brixton problem” — the slow erosion of pride, safety, and night-time confidence in our streets. This weekend, something is actually happening about it.
Sunday 1 March, 12:30–2:00pm. Brixton Community Clean-Up. Central Brixton, Loughborough Estate, Angel Town, Moorlands Estate, and Myatt’s Field Park.
This is resident-led. Young people organised it. Community champions are driving it. And the message is simple: Brixton is our home. Looking after it is up to us.
It’s an hour and a half. Gloves, litter pickers, high-vis — all provided. Residents, local businesses, community groups — everyone playing their part.
Because safety doesn’t start with policing. It starts with pride.

✨ Fri, 27 Feb – #QUEERPROM4: internet duos @brixtonjamm
🕒 10:00 PM–4:00 AM | A queer prom that rewrites the school-night script: speed-mates early doors, then breakcore/jungle/hyperpop chaos with cosplay optional and “wear whatever” mandatory. Come with a date, leave with a new group chat.
🎟️ Event info
✨ Fri, 27 Feb – Feel Good Fridays: Brixton Radio Takeover @brixtonradio
🕒 10:00 PM–1:00 AM | Local selectors, disco-leaning warm-ups, and that “I’ll stay for one” energy. If you’ve been saying Brixton needs more nights that feel like community (not content), this is your test. 🎟️ Event info
✨ Fri, 27 Feb – Blues at the Ritzy @bluesattheritzy
🕒 8:00 PM–2:00 AM | Upstairs turns into a dancefloor: taster class, live moments, and DJs cutting from vintage blues to modern grooves. It’s grown, it’s sweaty, it’s friendly—perfect if your weekend needs rhythm (not shouting). 🎟️ Event info
🎨 Art & Heritage

✨ Thu–Sat, 26–28 Feb – The Winning Fund Exhibition @photofusionuk
🕒 10:00 AM–6:00 PM | A tribute show with a future-facing edge: Andrew Winning’s work launches a legacy partnership designed to back the next wave of photographers. Go for the images, stay for the quiet reminder that archives need patrons.

✨ Thu–Sat, 26–28 Feb – The New Creators (Creators’ Studio) @photofusionuk
🕒 10:00 AM–6:00 PM | Young Lambeth talent, studio polish: portraits, styling, and storytelling that feel like tomorrow’s Brixton—made by people who actually live the postcode. Quick pop-in that’ll reset your idea of “emerging.” 🎟️ Event info
✨ Sat, 28 Feb – Black & White Darkroom Printing @photofusionuk
🕒 11:00 AM–5:00 PM | A full-day deep dive into analogue craft—dodging, burning, contrast control—the stuff that makes prints feel like objects, not files. Bring your negatives, leave with exhibition-grade paper and new respect for the dark.

🧩 Everything Else (community, food, workshops, markets, talks)

✨ Thu, 26 Feb – Taproom Sessions: JOJO MUSIC @brixtonbrewery
🕒 7:00 PM–10:00 PM | Rare disco, funk and electro grooves inside the arches—low stakes, high payoff. It’s the kind of night where you can actually talk, sip something local, then accidentally end up dancing by the tanks. 🎟️ Event info
✨ Tue, 3 Mar – Pub Quiz @effra.social
🕒 8:00 PM–10:00 PM | Brixton’s weeknight reset: pints, squads, and questions that start civil then get personal (“name one capital city”). Come early, grab a table, and let your group chat finally prove itself in public. 🎟️ Event info
✨ Wed, 4 Mar – Life Drawing with SketchPad @effra.social
🕒 7:30 PM–9:30 PM | Short poses, longer holds, and a room that makes it easy to focus. Bring charcoal or an iPad—either way, you’ll leave with warmer hands and sharper eyes. Low-pressure creativity midweek. 🎟️ Event info
