Join The Big Brixton Street Parade with Brixton Chamber Orchestra
Carnival might be over, but the parades are only just beginning…
Did you know that the O2 Academy used to be called the Astoria Theatre? Back in the early 1900s, when dance halls and big bands were at their party peak, tons of famous orchestras and big bands came to the Astoria Theatre to perform, attracting huge crowds ready to dance the night away.
As reggae, punk and electronic music swept through Brixton’s vibrant music scene, the big band dream smouldered in the background, while local jazz ensembles and community orchestras kept the spirit alive. And now, the Brixton Chamber Orchestra are bringing it back in a big way!
From Beethoven to Beyoncé, from Mozart to Motown, Funk and New Orleans, this brilliant Brixton ensemble has got something for everyone and just a bit more. Join them at 1:30pm on Windrush Square on Sunday 1st September, and follow the parade as it goes!
