The BccList: Celebrating International Women’s Day, Brixton’s Inspiring Mural & Events Highlighting Local Women
In honour of International Women’s Day, Brixton proudly celebrates Claudette Johnson’s powerful new mural, Three Women, now boldly displayed at Brixton Underground station. Johnson, a Turner Prize-nominated artist, offers an empowering visual narrative featuring three commanding Black female figures, symbolising the strength, diversity, and resilience at the heart of Brixton’s cultural identity. Drawing inspiration from the community murals of the 1980s, Johnson’s art sparks important conversations about representation, identity, and community pride. This mural isn't merely public art—it is a statement affirming Brixton’s right to share its own powerful stories, especially those of women who shape our community.
Claudette Johnson’s Three Women mural at Brixton Underground Station has captivated thousands and has quickly become a beacon of pride and empowerment for the local community. Social media platforms are buzzing, with hashtags #BrixtonCulture, #ThreeWomen, and #ClaudetteJohnson trending, underscoring Brixton’s enduring legacy of cultural resilience and female empowerment. Visit Brixton station, capture your moment with the mural, and join the conversation using #BrixtonLife.
