Michael Johns on Pope’s Road in Brixton artwork by Neequaye Dreph Dsane
Here's one of our fav Brixton murals, crafted by the talented artist Dreph. This piece was created during the October 2017 Brixton Design Trail, showcasing Dreph’s dedication to honouring unsung heroes. The mural depicts a true Brixtonian, Michael Johns, known for looking after the Pope’s Road toilets (the ones right across from the mural!). Micheal was even presented with the Keys to Brixton by council leader Lib Peck in recognition of his years of service.
Brixton’s murals are always more than art. They tell the stories of our dynamic community, they celebrate our rich culture and foster a strong sense of identity and belonging. They visually represent the community’s values, struggles, and triumphs, enhancing Brixton’s reputation as a cultural hub.

We love, love, love it when the Black Culture Market comes to town.
Pick out some new threads, update your skincare routine, find the perfect gift for your sister and then take a load off with a tasty cake. There are greetings cards, art, books, toys and more — and the best part is that every vendor is an emerging entrepreneur or new black business of African and Caribbean descent.
So head downstairs in the Department Store on the 27th and 28th of July to support black and TREAT YO’SELF. You deserve it.
Brixton Village just got better: the incubator units are now fully occupied!

Notorious B.I.N.G.O — A 90S Hip Hop Musical Bingo
We didn’t think bottomless brunch could get any better… and then the good people at Barrio Brixton made it hip hop and added bingo. Expect good food, lots of booze, hip hop beats and some wild 90’s lip sync battles, all while trying to keep an eye on your bingo card. It sounds like chaos — and we are so down for it.
